"Roar" is a song recorded by American singer Katy Perry for her upcoming fourth studio album, Prism (2013). The song was written by Perry, Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, Max Martin, Bonnie McKee, and Henry "Cirkut" Walter. "Roar" is a midtempo power pop. The song made its radio debut on August 10, 2013 and was released as a digital download on iTunes Store two days later. A lyric video was released the same day as its iTunes release. "Roar" has garnered positive reviews from music critics, some of whom compared it to her 2010 single "Firework". Others compared the song to Sara Bareilles' 2013 single "Brave".

"Blurred Lines" is a song recorded by American R&B recording artist Robin Thicke, for his 2013 album of the same name. The song features guest vocals from American rapper T.I. and American singer and producer Pharrell; all three share writing credits on the song. It was produced by Pharrell. The song was released as the lead single from Blurred Lines on March 26, 2013 through Star Trak Recordings. Believing that the song was supposed to be a demo, Justin Timberlake had expressed interest in writing additional lyrics for the song as he wanted it to be the lead single from his The 20/20 Experience album (which was released earlier in 2013) but Pharrell denied him from acquiring the song as he believed that Thicke was already planning it to be the lead single of his album with the same title.

"Berzerk" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Eminem, produced by renowned American music producer Rick Rubin. The song is the first single from Eminem's upcoming eighth studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. He released the song on August 27, 2013 via Twitter. The song samples Billy Squier's "The Stroke", as well as Beastie Boys' "The New Style" and "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)" both songs taken from their 1986 debut album Licensed to Ill, which Rubin had also produced. The song received heavy downloads in its first week, resulting in the song debuting at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her first release with RCA Records after leaving Hollywood Records, it was released on June 3, 2013, as the lead single from the project. The song was written by Mike Will Made It, Timothy Thomas, Theron Thomas, Douglas Davis and Ricky Walters, while production was handled by Mike Will Made It. "We Can't Stop" is a pop song that incorporates R&B and dance styles and lyrically talks of a house party.

It features vocals from singer Justin Timberlake and will serve as the album's first single. It was produced by The-Dream, Timbaland and Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon, with additional production from No ID and contains elements of Nirvana's 1991 hit single "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Following the release of the album, the song debuted at number eight on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 24 on the UK Singles Chart.

The song was released as the album's lead single, it was originally intended to be released through mainstream and rhythmic airplay on August 19, 2013 by Interscope Records, but was rush-released a week earlier on August 12 after two snippets of the song were leaked online on August 10.

It was released in June 2013 as the first single by Avicii from his upcoming debut studio album True, which is set to be released on September 17, 2013.The song achieved commercial success internationally, peaking at number one in 15 countries including in Italy, Ireland and the UK Singles Chart and charting on the US Billboard' Hot 100.

"Royals" is a song by New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde. Universal Music Group released the song as the first single from her first extended play The Love Club (2012) in 2013.
On writing "Royals", Lorde said, “When I wrote Royals, I was listening to a lot of rap, but also a lot of Lana Del Rey, because she’s obviously really hip-hop influenced, but all those references to expensive alcohol, beautiful clothes and beautiful cars – I was thinking, ‘This is so opulent, but it’s also bullshit.

Trap and house remixes of "Summertime Sadness" helped Del Rey break into the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart. There, it became a modest hit and marked Del Rey's first foray into the chart. On the accompanied Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart, the single gave Del Rey her first US number-one single in August 2013. Earlier in 2012, the song also managed to become a rock hit in the US.

It is a cover of Lulu and the Lampshades' song "Cups (You're Gonna Miss Me)," a rendition of an old-time folk song "When I'm Gone" recorded in 1931 by the Carter Family, with later versions by J. E. Mainer's Mountaineers and Charlie Monroe. It also serves as the official song of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. It debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at 86,it peaked at 8 and his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and his most successful song in the US and Worldwide. It has sold 1,100,000 copies as of July 29 2013.
